Group Web Design Project
For this project you will need to design a website for one of the following businesses, this time with a partner.
The web site will need the following:
CHOOSE ONE
1) King's Diner
The King's Diner is a small diner located in Naples Maine. It serves basic diner food, with a retro 1950’s decor. They do not have a logo, they have a large number of tourists in the summer and have a good number of senior citizens in the winter who want good basic food at a reasonable price. They have never had a website and want to bring in new people. The summer menu serves more tourists and features more local seafood, the winter menu is more local senior citizens and is more home style comfort food. They will need a logo designed for them too. The Kings Diner was started in 1983 by Donna and Dave King, long-time residents of Naples.
2) Ming’s Wings
A Chinese restaurant located in Scarborough on Route 1. Menu is Chinese and specializes in a variety of hot and spicy chicken wings. The restaurant has another location outside of Boston in Saugus Massachusetts. Owner is a winner of the TV show “Chopped” Ming Wong, born in Hunan, China but moved to the US at age 15. The Hunan region of China is known for hot and spicy food.
3) T & G Stove & Firewood
T & G is a brand new business founded last year. They need a website to help spread the word. The sell green and seasoned firewood, as well as Jotel wood stoves. They are located in Gorham. Tom and Ginny Wilson are the owners and they want a modern upscale looking website. Something with a Scandinavian look to go along with their Jotul wood stoves. They just moved to Maine from San Francisco California and need a logo design too.
4) Charlotte & Devin’s
This is a very fancy spa and hair salon located in the Old Port of Portland. The shop wants to attract wealthy women and men. They offers a variety of spa treatments, massage as well as haircuts and coloring. Charlotte Plachot is from Paris France and Devin Bisson is from Lyon France. They want their French heritage to be evident in the website. They have been in business for 10 years and the old website needs a makeover for an upscale and modern look.
5) Old Pappy’s Soda Shop
Selling root beer, ice cream and old time candy as well as New England products and souvenirs. This store located at Sugarloaf USA has an “Old Time Maine” feel. Decor is from the late 1800’s early 1900’s. Old Pappy was the owners grampa and use to make his own root beer and ice cream in the 1950’s. According to the owners the old website did not have the right “old time feel”. They want a new logo that incorporates a photo of Old Pappy. The business was started in 2007 by Richard and Susan Dingwell from Lewiston Maine.
6) Furry Friends Pet Store
Martha and Joe Walker are interested in creating a website for their pet store, Furry Friends. Founded in 1996 by Martha’s mother, Furry Friends has been helping local families find the perfect pets for nearly twenty years. When Martha’s mother passed away in 2013, Martha decided that it was time to update the store before it’s 20th anniversary. Furry Friends is located off of Main Street in Bridgeton Maine, next to Warren’s Florist. Furry Friend’s needs a new logo, which Martha and Joe would like incorporated into the website. They would also like a page about the history of the business, as well as some success stories about their animals finding forever families.
The web site will need the following:
- 30 second original video - you must write, shoot and edit this yourself, upload to YouTube, post on your home page
- An original printable PDF coupon - 10% off on Fridays or some other offer of a discount
- Design a logo and place it on your header or on your home page somewhere appropriate
- Include street address, phone and email in at least 3 places on the website. One location must be in a footer
- Create a bio with owners names - tell your story
- A Google map showing the street address on the contact page
- Full listing of goods and/or services offered with good high quality photos (www.creativecommons.org)
- A minimum of 4 hyperlinks (external links to companies you do business with)
